How do Orthotics work?
Orthotics fit in any shoe that has a removable insole. You should replace the existing insole with your custom orthotics. Custom Orthotics main intent is to realign the structure of the foot and correct the imbalances. When you first start wearing your orthotics, it may feel discomfort (pressure in some areas). For this reason, it is recommended that the orthotics are worn in short intervals initially, and the progress to longer intervals during the first 2 weeks. The longer you wear your custom orthotics the more benefit you will get out of them. Since orthotics are custom made for a specific purpose, you may need different pairs of custom orthotics that are designed for different type of activities (i.e. orthotics for running may be different from the orthotics worn for work). Our Doctors of Chiropractic will be able to guide you and recommend what is most appropriate for your individual needs. How Long Do Orthotics Last?
Orthotics typically last for 1-3 years depending on the patient’s usage. There is an Extended Warranty option available for purchase (additional $50) that covers the cost of a replacement pair of orthotics for growing kids/teens (up to age 18) for 2 years after the original orthotic purchase. Why Choose Orthotics Services at Legacies Health Centre?

What to Expect
Before your appointment: If there are any specific preparations required for your appointment, you will be advised prior to your appointment day.
Your Assessment
Please bring to the appointment your commonly worn footwear (dress/ casual/ athletic shoes, work boots, etc.), along with any existing orthotics or foot aids you may be currently using.
The Doctor of Chiropractic will use a total foot care approach when recommending strategies that may include solutions to lifestyle, mobility and overall health conditions. Sharing of expertise will assist in making an informed choice about the health of your feet.
A biomechanical assessment is performed to determine the specific need for orthotics. This may include evaluations of stance/gait, joint/muscle palpation, orthopedic examinations, as well as looking at wear patterns in your current shoes and orthotics.
If orthotics are recommended, the doctor will use a painless semi-weight bearing foam cast to create impressions of your feet. The molds from your feet, as well as your biomechanical assessment, will be used to create your custom orthotics in a highly specialized lab.
Your Orthotics Fitting Appointment
You will be required to return for a fitting and any final adjustments that may be required to the orthotics, which are performed at Legacies. This whole process can take approximately 3-4 weeks, depending on shipping. Book your orthotic assessment well in advance of your benefits’ end date to avoid disappointment.
