About Clinical Counselling
Legacies Health Centre is now offering Clinical Counselling services via Telehealth (50-minute session delivered virtually or by telephone) in partnership with Back in Motion Health, our subsidiary company.
Legacies Health Centre counsellors are all master’s-level trained mental health professionals. Our counselors hold a license with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors, designating them as Registered Clinical Counsellors (RCC).
Legacies Health Centre provides counselling for:
Mental health counselling and support for individuals
Relationship and family counselling
Guidance and career counselling
Substance abuse counselling
Legacies offer short or long-term counselling services and uses different approaches:
- Cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT)
- Talk therapy
- Solution-focused therapy
- Mindfulness and acceptance-based therapies
- Dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT)
- Somatic experiencing
- Rogerian therapy, etc.
Is Counselling recommended for me?
If you are not sure if counselling is recommended for you, Legacies offers 15-minute initial consultation. Your counsellor will assess your individual case and determine if counselling can support you.
Generally speaking, Counselling services are recommended to any individuals who are:
- Experiencing symptoms of anxiety and depression
- Feeling lack of social support, or isolated
- Struggling with stress and/or life transitions (relationship, career, changes)
- Suffering due to grief, bereavement, past traumatic events or crisis-related issues
- Feeling overwhelmed

Before Your Appointment
If there are any specific preparations required for your appointment, you will be advised prior to your appointment day. Counselling services are offered via Telehealth (virtual or telephone); when booking your appointment, specifies the method for contact.
First & Subsequent Appointments
Your initial counselling session consists of introductions, informed consent review, establishing rapport, and conducting formal or informal assessments as needed. Assessments may include questionnaires to evaluate symptoms of anxiety, depression, etc.
The counselling team at Legacies Health Centre is here to support you achieve your goals and create lasting change towards a more satisfying life. We understand counselling may be uncomfortable at first. It’s normal that you may feel nervous or anxious about meeting your counsellor. Our experienced clinicians will do the best to ensure that you feel as comfortable as possible during your appointment/treatment.
Your counsellor will provide space for you to share about what has brought you to counselling, your goals and expectations. The counsellor may take brief notes during your session to support treatment planning.
At the end of the session, you will be reminded to book your follow-up appointments, when needed. You may do that with your clinician or by calling 604-425-1550 one of our locations. Counselling sessions are not available to book online at this point.
After Your Appointment
It’s normal to feel overwhelmed by emotions after your session. If you have further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact our office, and our administrative staff or your counsellor will be happy to address them with you. If you require a short-notice appointment, we may be able to accommodate. If you experience an urgent emergency or crisis situation, please go to your nearest hospital emergency room, call 9-1-1, or call a 24-hour community crisis line for assistance:

Meet Our Counsellors
Jennifer Baker, MEd, RCC, PMH-C
Jennifer Baker is a passionate advocate for her clients’ growth and success in life. She is honoured to work collaboratively with her clients, coming alongside them with support to grow and achieve their goals by harnessing their own innate strengths and resources. She believes that her clients are the experts in their own lives and views her role as their therapist as one of support and guidance. Having encountered various struggles in her own life, she is acutely aware of the impact of mental health concerns on her clients and is constantly inspired by the courage they show in seeking counselling and pursuing personal growth and change in their lives.
Jennifer is a warm, caring therapist who prizes her clients and the therapeutic relationship in her work. She cultivates a safe, non-judgmental space where clients may feel valued and able to openly examine their concerns and seize opportunities for change. Her clinical work draws from cognitive-behavioural therapy, mindfulness, dialectical behaviour therapy, somatic experiencing, acceptance and commitment therapy, and motivational interviewing modalities.

Jennifer holds a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from the University of British Columbia. She is a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC) in good professional standing. In addition, Jennifer is a certified perinatal mental health professional (PMH-C), which means she has undertaken additional training in order to support individuals with pregnancy and postpartum mental health concerns. When not in session, Jennifer enjoys spending time with her family and King Shepherd, reading, and spending time outdoors.
Joseph Wong, Registered Clinical Counsellor
Joseph Wong is a Canadian Certified Counsellor, BC Registered Clinical Counsellor and Ontario Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying).
In his counselling, Joseph utilizes an integrative approach based on the current evidence-based psychology theories such as solution-focused brief therapy SFBT, dialectical behavioural therapy DBT, cognitive behavioural therapy CBT, motivational interviewing MI, mindfulness, attachment therapy, trauma informed support, e-Connent parent group, and MANDT. Joe offer services in both English and Cantonese.

Mercedes Douglas, Registered Clinical Counsellor
Mercedes believes the therapeutic relationship is a powerful instrument in the therapist’s tool belt. Her intention is to hold a space where clients can truly feel seen and heard as they contemplate, cultivate and create change. She can help illuminate new perspectives and introduce strategies to lead a more meaningful life. Mercedes merges evidence-based cognitive behavioural approaches with integrative tools to help clients align with their goals.
Mercedes received her Master’s in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University in 2019. She is a professional member of the Canadian Counsellors and Psychotherapists Association and the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors. She is currently working towards certification in Clinical Hypnotherapy.

No, you do not need a referral for counselling services.
Legacies offers complimentary 15-minute consultation, where a counsellor will be able to assess if this treatment is recommended for your individual needs. Call 604-425-15550 to book your free 15-minute initial consultation.
Currently, Legacies Health Centre/ Back in Motion is able to direct bill counselling services to Greenshield and Empire Life.
For other insurance companies, Legacies Health Centre/ Back in Motion provides a medical receipt to be used on request for reimbursement.
Many extended benefits providers provide coverage for mental health services provided by an RCC. It is important to inquire with your extended benefits provider which mental health professional is accepted under your coverage.
At present, the counselling profession is not a regulated profession in BC. This means that a person may call themselves a mental health therapist, counsellor, etc. and may not have the adequate education and training, credentials, or licensing to be approved by your extended health coverage. At Back in Motion, our counsellors are all master’s-level trained mental health professionals that hold a license in good professional standing with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors, designating them as Registered Clinical Counsellors (RCC).
Counselling appointments can only be booked via telephone at this point. Please call 604-425-1550, and our staff will be able to help you.
Clients should refer to their specific Extended Medical Plan coverage for details on services and coverage available. If you have coverage, Legacies/Back in Motion provides a medical receipt to be used on request for reimbursement. Counselling services cannot be charged through direct billing.

Extended Health Coverage
Legacies Health Centre offers direct billing to most Extended Health plans to the majority of our services. Some services (like Clinical Counselling), do not offer direct billing. In such instances, Legacies provides a medical receipt to be used on request for reimbursement. See an updated list of providers by clicking the ‘Learn More’ button below.
ICBC Insurance Claims
Legacies Practitioners, including Physiotherapists, Massage Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and Kinesiologists, all have extensive experience in administering ICBC treatments. We are here to help! Click the ‘learn more’ button for additional details.
Workplace injuries are usually due to trauma or overuse. If you have been injured as a result of a workplace activity, our team of experts at Legacies can perform a comprehensive assessment and develop a treatment plan to reduce your symptoms and rehabilitate your injury.
If your claim is approved by WSBC, your initial assessment is 100% covered with a WorkSafeBC Claim number. Once your claim has been accepted by WorkSafeBC, the full treatment cost of your appointments will be funded (within the approved time parameters). When you are ready, your physiotherapist will work with you, your employer, physician, and WorkSafeBC Case Manager to develop a safe and appropriate return to work plan. If your claim has been denied or is disallowed, the expenses will need to be covered by the Patient
